KENT BEE-KEEPERS’ ASSOCIATION WESTERHAM BRANCH NEWSLETTER February 2012 The last meeting was well attended and Celia’s tips about preparing for the spring were informative. A pity the weather then took a turn for the much colder! Next Meeting February 29th at 8pm in the Westerham Hall John Henrie “Bee diseases.” Directions for Westerham Hall: From the A 25 in the centre of Westerham (by the Green), take the London Road towards Biggin Hill; turn first right into Quebec Avenue; the car park and Westerham Hall is on the right hand side. OS Ref: 447542 March 28th at 8pm in the Westerham Hall “Make do and mend.” Free-cycle Swop table. Spring clean that equipment before you need it in a panic! Clear out that equipment you don’t need! Bring it along – someone might provide a happy home. Fix that queen excluder; make that frame up; assemble that flat pack super! Bring along your expertise, equipment and tool box. Between us all we can fix it! A chance to chat as you work! Feel good about being prepared! April 25th at 8pm in the Westerham Hall Diane Steele, “ Swarm Control” talk . I know this is rather late but at least it will be fresh in your mind! Dates for summer meetings These are being finalised. If you would like to offer your apiary as a venue please speak to one of the committee. So far there is one date for your diary. Saturday 19th May 2.30 pm At John and Margaret Williams’ home apiary at 132 Sutherland Avenue, Biggin Hill TN16 3HJ. Directions: Travelling north from Westerham on the A233, go past the x roads at Westerham Heights Garden Centre for 1mile and turn 1st left into St Winifred’s Road; turn left into Lotus Road and right into Belvedere Road; 132 is on the corner of Belvedere and Sutherland. OS Ref: 425581 Bee Training Facility in Kent Some members are signed up for a day course for the 2nd Level Beekeepers’ training later in March at the Kent Science Research Centre in Sittingbourne. Interest has been such that a second date has already been arranged for those unable to gain a place on the first day. Sugar for sale Do you need sugar to help your bees build new comb?
