If you are interested in starting with beekeeping or simply interested in honeybees you are welcome to join us in the Westerham branch of the Kent Beekeepers’ Association (KBKA). As a member of branch and the KBKA you will also be a member of the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA).
The Westerham branch arranges meetings throughout the year covering subjects suggested by members. During the winter, our meetings include talks on a wide range of topics about bees and beekeeping. In spring and summer we meet in members’ apiaries when experienced beekeepers demonstrate seasonal aspects of colony management. Members are welcome to attend any of the many meetings and demonstrations arranged by other beekeeping groups throughout Kent.
During the spring and summer there are opportunities for beginners to learn the practical aspects of beekeeping at the Crockham Hill Common apiary. You will learn how to open a hive and handle bees under the guidance of experienced beekeepers. Starter colonies (nuclei) and swarms collected in our area are sometimes available for beginners.
We have a few books that are available on loan to members including some for beginners. The branch also has some equipment available on loan. This includes some of the most expensive items that a small scale beekeeper may need only occasionally.
The yearly subscription includes an award winning monthly journal 'BeeCraft' which includes articles with beginners in mind. Insurance against statutory notifiable disease for three colonies and public liability cover is also included. The subscription year runs from 1st October. If you would like more information or have any questions about joining the branch please contact the Membership Secretary by telephone or E-mail. For details see the Contacts page.
You can join the Westerham branch by downloading the membership application form and sending it with a cheque to our Membership Secretary, Peter Cobley, Lydens Cottage, Lydens Lane, Hever. Edenbridge. TN8 7EP
