They are the Tree Bumble Bee [Bombus Hypnorum]
During the months of April to July we get a large number of calls about this particular bumble bee. If they are causing a nuisance, click here for their life cycle and what can be done about them.

However if they look like this swarm on a branch:
And the flying bees look like the picture above they are definitely honey bees, so..........

St. Mary's Church, Hadlow had bees in their Chuch Tower and required them to be removed to enable contractors to continue their renovation work. See this pdf of pictures below:
