18 Nov 2010. The NBU is currently requesting that members of the public who suspect they have found an Asian hornet should a notify them immediately, providing as much information as possible. 13 Oct 2010. The NBU has updated it's advisory on the Small Hive Beetle. This beetle, indigenous to Africa, has recently spread to the USA, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and Australia where it has proved it can be a very serious pest of European honey bees. There is a serious risk of its accidental introduction into the UK. All beekeepers need to be aware of the fundamental details of the beetle’s lifecycle and how it can be recognised and controlled. Get involved in bee breeding. Like all other forms of life bees can be improved by selective breeding. BIBBA encourages beekeepers to work together in breeding groups.
