How Many Beekeepers

In the UK there are approximately 44,000 beekeepers looking after around 240,000 hives.
They produce 6000 tones of honey per year.
Each hive is worth about £400 to the agricultural economy.
We produce only 20% of the honey we consume - the rest is imported.

Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of KBKA will be held on Saturday 6th June 2009 at the Margaret Calder Pavilion Detling at 11:30 am or when the Council meeting finishes if later. The formal notice and agenda in the full newsletter. The meeting is purely a formality to comply with legal requirements, but anyone wishing to attend the AGM is welcome to sit in at the Council meeting as well.

Join BIBBA the Bee Improvement and Bee Breeding Association

Get involved in bee breeding. Like all other forms of life bees can be improved by selective breeding. BIBBA encourages beekeepers to work together in breeding groups. Much has been achieved but more could be done by beekeepers working together. Subs are £20 per annum and the Bee Improvement magazine is included in the subscription fee. Jim Weedon RIP
Arthur Frederick Weedon, age 91, died on Wednesday 8th June after a short stay in hospital. Funeral is on Tuesday, 5th July at 3.15pm at Falconwood Crematorium. No flowers, donations to Alzeimers.
