Hard Life

To collect a pound of honey a bee might have to fly a distance equivalent to twice round the world. This is likely to involve more than 10,000 flower visits on perhaps 500 foraging trips.
A worker honeybee in summer lives only 6 to 8 weeks from the time she hatches as an adult bee. Before that, it takes just 3 weeks for her to develop from an egg.

Join BIBBA the Bee Improvement and Bee Breeding Association

Get involved in bee breeding. Like all other forms of life bees can be improved by selective breeding. BIBBA encourages beekeepers to work together in breeding groups. Much has been achieved but more could be done by beekeepers working together. Subs are £20 per annum and the Bee Improvement magazine is included in the subscription fee. Surrey BKA Traning Day
Surrey BKA Training Day - 3rd March 2012. Beekeeping Spring Management and more by Alan Byham Regional Bee Inspector and other speakers to be announced. Topics will include: Spring management, Queen rearing, Managing nucs, Swarm control.

Taster course, could I keep Bees?
The course is aimed at people who are interested in taking up beekeeping or want to learn more about bees. A practical and theory based session showing bees and the hive, we will cover the basics. Protective clothing will be provided 19th May 2012, 9am – 1pm.

Beginner's Beekeeping Course 2012
Four sessions each of three hours theory and practical includes opening active hives, you will handle bee’s before you have to commit to keeping them! Starts August 11th, 18th, Sept 1st & 8th 2012.

Improvers' Course
Course starting on Friday 3rd Febuary 2012 in Yalding, Kent. This improvers' course is aimed at existing beekeepers, those that have kept bees for at least one full year.
