Kent Bee-keepers' Association

KBKA Website Update 2008

The Big Medium website will be retired during 2016 watch this space.

Today we launched the new Kent Bee-keepers Association website using a web content management system (CMS) which will simplify web publishing and enable updating of branch sections (independent of webmaster) by the branch secretary or nominated web editor.

No HTML knowledge or extra software is required by branch web editors as everything is archived using a web browser and Internet connection.

I will require the contact details of each branch nominated web editor: Branch Name, First Name, Last Name, Email Address.

You can preview an example of the default branch website:

My Beekeepers' Association

Branches now using the system are: Bromley, OrpingtonWesterham.

When you have been given login details you can make changes to the displayed text and populate with articles, downloads and links.

The web address for branch websites will be similar to ( depending on branch name.

Contact the webmaster with the information needed.

Questions and Answers

Q1. Kent site in general. I would prefer not to see advertisements on every page of the site. Cannot we restrict this to the home page?

Answer. I’m afraid the deals have been done and I have guaranteed the sponsors their sponsored links on all HTML pages including the branch sites. BIBBA have a FREE advert (on all pages except the home page) which I like to support.

Q2. Is there a user manual for the back-end system?

Answer. Yes you can download one here [5.4MB PDF]

Q3. What kind of Internet connection do you recommend for editors?

Answer. You can only update your site if  you have a live Internet connection, dial-up can be used but broadband is recommended.

Q4. Can I change the menu selection, for example - remove "Blogs" and add "Courses"?

Answer. Yes you can either by asking the administrator or depending on your level of access change it yourself.
