Description: Some players use a custom version of the blues pentatonic scale which includes the 6th – a note that’s not resident in the good old-fashioned minor pentatonic. This has the effect of sweetening up the scale whilst making it sound a bit jazzy, too. If you check out the tab above you will be able to see that by adding this one note, you can bring the blues scale one step closer to the Dorian mode – a favourite of jazz players and renowned for its sweet and sour characteristics.
